Visibility Splay

Any new vehicular access or private driveway that joins the public highway will normally need to meet certain criteria in terms of visibility splays.

Planning and Highway Authorities will normally base the required visibility splay on the speed limit of the road.  However, in circumstances where site constraints mean this level of visibility cannot be achieved, it is common practice to undertake a traffic speed survey, to determine if a relaxed visibility splay will be acceptable, based on actual vehicle speeds.

We assist private homeowners and developers, firstly by undertaking a speed survey.  We can then use the results to advise on acceptable visibility requirements, based on national standards.
